Maximum versatility

In order to optimally exploit the machine's potential, WIRTGEN offers the ideal milling drum for every application. The different milling drum types differ for different applications based on their tool spacing and maximum possible milling depth.

The milling drum must generally fulfill three primary tasks:

  • Cutting and breaking out the material particles from the composite.
  • Transport of the loosened material particles to the area of the extractor.
  • Extraction of the broken out material particles onto the loading belt.

Examples of different milling drums for small milling

LA15 milling drum: Milling drum with a tool spacing of 0.6 in (15 mm).

LA3 micro-fine milling drum: Milling drum with a tool spacing of 0.1 in (3 mm) for fine milling jobs.

LA4 FB500 water channel milling drum: Milling drum with a tool spacing of 0.2 in (4 mm) and a milling width of 1 ft 8 in (500 mm) to create water channels.

Cutting wheel: Specially developed milling drum for the trenching method.

Examples of different milling drums for compact and large milling

ECO cutter: When high-volume milling performance is required (e.g., complete deconstruction of roadways, concrete milling jobs) Milling depth: up to max. 1 ft 2 in (350 mm), tool spacing: 7.9 - 9.8 in (20 - 25 mm).

Standard milling drum: Universal milling drum for a wide variety of uses (e.g., to remove surface layer and binder course) Milling depth: max. 1 ft 2 in (350 mm), tool spacing: 0.5 - 0.7 (12 - 18 mm).

Fine milling drum: When high-volume milling performance is required (e.g., complete deconstruction of roadways, concrete milling jobs) Milling depth: up to max. 3.1. in (80 mm), tool spacing: 0.3 - 0.4 (8 - 10 mm).

Micro-fine milling drum: With maximum requirements for the milling profile (e.g., increased grip due to roughing of roadway layers, preparation milling for surface treatment and thin-layer surfaces, removal of lane markings) Milling depth: max. 1.2 in (30 mm), tool spacing: 0.1- 0.2 in (3 - 6 mm).

Easy exchange of milling drums in record time

Milling drums are now exchanged even more quickly thanks to the new generation of MCS milling drums. A single central bolt needs to be loosened, which can be performed by the milling drum rotation device at the mere push of a button. All that remains to be done for the operator is to pull out the milling drum. The side door on the right is opened quickly and effortlessly as it features a hydraulic cylinder drive. The simplified process offers numerous advantages: the rapid exchange of application-specific milling drums with different tool spacings increases machine productivity. The short-term exchange and use of the milling drum best suited to the job to be performed reduces wear costs. In addition, maximum flexibility is guaranteed in order to cater to the ever-changing requirements in day-to-day business.

Milling drum replacement with FCS

The optional Flexible Cutter System (FCS) makes interchanging milling drums with various working widths, tool spacing and milling profiles quick and easy. The high degree of flexibility with FCS opens up many different potential uses of cold milling for maximum economy.

  • FCS – Change out milling drums of different widths, with different line spacing and milling profiles (e.g., small milling)
  • FCS Light – Milling drums of the same width with different tool spacing and milling profiles (e.g., large milling)

Assembly Kit for MCS Basic Milling Drums

FCS Light milling drums can easily be mounted in the MCS Basic milling drum housing. Using the MCS Basic assembly kit, your milling drums will be compatible with the F series large milling machines in no time at all.
