Location and Product Range Expanded

New Potential – The 2000s

The new millennium is all about innovative machines and state-of-the-art process technologies. WIRTGEN focuses on expanding its leading position in milling, cold recycling, and mining, as well as capturing a greater share of the concrete paving market.

As a result, WIRTGEN expands its range of cold milling machines to include an entirely new generation of small milling machines. At the same time, state-of-the-art machine technology and innovative features in small and large milling machines take cold milling to a new level.

During this period of innovation, WIRTGEN also continuously expands its range of recyclers and soil stabilizers for in-situ and in-plant cold recycling applications. By 2005, the company’s newly developed innovations succeed in strengthening its market-leading position in this segment – from mobile cold recycling mixing plants to wheeled and tracked recyclers and wheeled soil stabilizers. At the same time, WIRTGEN rounds out its range of slipform pavers for concrete paving.

WIRTGEN develops the most powerful machine in the surface mining sector – the new 4200 SM – thus highlighting its decades of mining expertise. Surface mining, which began as a niche technology, has evolved into the primary method used to mine minerals in many places.

At the same time, WIRTGEN GmbH continues to invest in its Windhagen location. As such, the company builds a new assembly facility, a facility for special machines, a new administrative wing, and implements other infrastructure projects.

Between 2006 and 2010, Jürgen Wirtgen and Stefan Wirtgen press ahead with their growth strategy. The WIRTGEN GROUP enters the materials processing market in order to tap further potential in the future in addition to road construction. Two areas of business are defined: “Road Technologies” and “Mineral Technologies.”

The development of the second area of business begins in 2006 with the successful integration of KLEEMANN GmbH, a long-established German manufacturer of mobile processing systems, into the group. The gradual addition of KLEEMANN into the WIRTGEN GROUP’s global sales and service network and the construction of the new brand headquarters in Göppingen allows the WIRTGEN GROUP to further expand its “Mineral Technologies” division in the years leading up to 2010 and position it strongly for the future.

Milestones
  • Transition to systematic series design for small milling machine models
  • Expansion of the product range in all four product lines and implementation of innovative machine features
  • Expansion of the Windhagen site
  • Integration of KLEEMANN into the WIRTGEN GROUP and creation of the “Road Technologies” and “Mineral Technologies” divisions
