Customized Solutions and Close Customer Relationships

Family Growth and Expansion of Sales and Service – The Nineties

In the mid 90s, WIRTGEN was already a major international manufacturer of construction machinery with its road milling machine, cold recycler, hot recycler, soil stabilizer, slipform paver, and surface miner product lines.

Even under Reinhard Wirtgen’s leadership, the company’s plan was to evolve into a full-service supplier of mobile machinery for new road construction and road rehabilitation. Jürgen Wirtgen and Stefan Wirtgen turned this vision into reality after taking over management of the company in 1997.

To achieve this, they gradually merged their company with the renowned manufacturers Joseph VÖGELE AG and HAMM AG to form the WIRTGEN GROUP. This alliance resulted in a key competitive advantage, as there were only a few full-service providers of mobile road construction machines in the world.

WIRTGEN had already invested in the expansion of its sales and service network in the 1980s in order to optimally meet increasing global demand. When the companies merged to form the WIRTGEN GROUP, these efforts were intensified once again. Subsidiaries were established on every continent, and the dealer network steadily grew. In addition, a variety of new services were added to the comprehensive range of services that customers particularly appreciate. Thanks to its worldwide locations, WIRTGEN was now on site even faster to provide assistance. The combination of customized machine solutions and close customer relationships opened up new markets for WIRTGEN all over the world.
