The AutoTrac automatic steering and width control

Precise and automatic control of the direction of travel and paving width of a Dash 5 paver: The VÖGELE AutoTrac automatic steering and width control supports users in various paving situations. The automatic solution uses real references that are scanned with sensors.

AutoTrac enables automatic screed width control using the Edge Control stringline follower, the Edge Detection edge follower and the fixed screed width setting. Users can also steer the paver automatically with the automated steering control system.

Edge Control: the stringline follower

If a stringline is used for grade and slope control during paving, users can use the Edge Control stringline follower for screed width control. With the help of the multi-cell sonic sensor used for height control, the screed extending section automatically adapts to the course of the tensioned stringline during paving.

Edge Detection: the edge follower

If a milling edge or toe board is present, Edge Detection can use this as a reference for width control of the screed. The laser sensor attached to the side plate detects an ascending or descending edge with a profile of at least 2 cm in a measuring range of 70° and follows it automatically. It does not matter whether the edge is inside or outside the side plate.

Fixed screed width

With the fixed width, the paving width of the screed remains at the set value. If one of the extensions is moved manually or by means of a sensor, the other moves automatically in the opposite direction. This means that the width always remains fixed.

Steering Control

With the Steering Control function, the paver is automatically steered in the right direction. A sonic sensor scans a reference, e.g., a guide wire, and follows it automatically.

Can be flexibly combined with one another

All AutoTrac functions for steering and width control can be combined with one other. For example, the screed width can be controlled on one paver side with Edge Detection using a curb and on the other side Edge Control along a stringline. This flexibility allows users to make optimum use of the automation in different installation situations.
