Children in Need – Helping People Help Themselves

“Children in Need” Charity Group

In 1983, Gisela Wirtgen, wife of company founder Reinhard Wirtgen, founded the “Children in Need” (“Kinder in Not”) charity group

after reading a letter from a Filipino priest who wrote that his school had burned down and classes were now canceled for 270 students from extremely poor families. Gisela Wirtgen took this opportunity to travel to the Philippines and see the situation on the ground for herself. This was the beginning of the “Children in Need” charity group, whose basic idea was to help needy children, young people, and families.

Today it has grown into a non-profit organization that supports aid projects in the Philippines, India, and Brazil. The guiding principle is not to simply distribute donations, but rather to invest in long-term projects that will bring about a lasting improvement in the living conditions of the children supported and, if possible, their families.
