EVO plant train in operation in hard granite in Tanzania

A Kleemann plant trains proves its value in an African granite quarry: After an adventurous journey, the jaw crusher MOBICAT MC 110 EVO2, the cone crusher MOBICONE MCO 90 EVO2 and the classifying screen MOBISCREEN MSC 953 EVO work in perfect harmony.

A challenging journey: The Kleemann machines set off on their long journey by ship from Europe to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. But that was only the beginning. After clearing customs, the journey continued – on low-loaders, by train and finally over a ten-kilometre-long, unpaved road deep into the Tanzanian hinterland. The destination: a newly developed quarry around 40 kilometers from Mwanza at Lake Victoria where the company Sasco Trading processes granite for infrastructure projects.

“Transportation was really special and time-consuming. This showed how important compact mobile plants are”, says Markus Hofmann, Kleemann Area Sales Manager Africa. “Thanks to their compactness, all machines could be loaded and transported relatively easily – this was a real advantage.”

Work in granite: New paths for Sasco Trading

Sasco Trading is new to the business and is very ambitious. Tanzania is planning many investments in road construction in the coming years, and Sasco wants to become a strong partner in the supply of materials.

The rock to be extracted from the quarry for this purpose is an extremely hard granite. “We looked around intensively to see what plants were available”, explains Sasco Trading owner Sabasi Shirima. Kleemann is the market leader in Tanzania where several plant trains from the Göppingen company are already in operation. “The crushing and screening plants have a very good reputation in Tanzania. That was ultimately decisive for us. Now that we have the plants in operation, we know: Our decision was correct.”

Efficiency, output, quality

The jaw crusher MOBICAT MC 110 EVO2 takes over the task of pre-crushing the large, hard granite material with sizes of up to 500 mm. Following this, the Kleemann cone crusher takes over, which refines the grain and brings it into perfect shape. A downstream classifying screen then creates three high-quality final products: 0–6 mm, 6–10 mm and 10–18 mm – including other variants, depending on the customer’s requirements.

Plant performance statistics for this project: The trio of plants processes up to 150 tons of rock per hour The MC 110 EVO2 requires an average of only 12 litres diesel fuel per hour; the MCO 90 EVO2 requires 19 litres. At 16 litres per hour, the fuel consumption of the screening plant is also comparatively low.

“The crushing and screening plants have a very good reputation in Tanzania. That was ultimately decisive for us. Now that we have the plants in operation, we know: Our decision was correct.”

Thanks to intelligent line linking and the Continuous Feed System, the Kleemann plants work safely and efficiently.

Intelligent line linking: How it runs so smoothly

The intelligent line linking guarantees smooth operation of the complete plant train. In the event of overfilling, each of the machines sends signals to the upstream and downstream machines. Crusher utilization is also optimized thanks to the Continuous feed system (CFS). It ensures that each machine is provided with an optimum feed, which reduces wear and maximizes output.

The intelligent line linking also guarantees safety: If an emergency stop is pressed anywhere on the plant train, all machines are safely stopped.

“The intelligent interlinking is one of the excellent features of the plant train. Thanks to the automated processes, our customers can count on considerably higher production and significantly less maintenance”, emphasizes Kleemann expert Jerry Muchiri, who accompanied the project to Tanzania.

Simple, intuitive operation

A further advantage is that three of Sasco Trading's plant operators have already worked with Kleemann plants at another company. However, thanks to the intuitive SPECTIVE operating system, getting started with the new plant is quick and easy for all users. “Our employees found their bearings very easily”, reports Sabasi Shirima. “The training was intensive, but very easy to understand – and operation afterwards was really straightforward.”

Support right from the start: Kleemann on site

Another reason that guaranteed a smooth start: A Kleemann Service technician was on site for 10 days for intensive training and commissioning. Once the day-to-day work has settled in after a few weeks and any detailed questions have arisen, there will be a second round on site or via video conference if necessary. “We know that we will not be left alone with questions in the future, which is a very good feeling” stresses the entrepreneur Sabasi Shirima.
