Compact shape – high gradeability

Achieving high-quality compaction on small, cramped construction sites is often a challenge. This is why, with the H 7i, HAMM has developed a compactor that boasts super-compact dimensions. Equipped with a powerful compaction system and a modern, powerful travel drive with drive engines, the compactors in the H CompactLine series master inclines of up to 60% and compact efficiently in doing so. Together with the three-point articulation, this results in outstanding off-road mobility and driving stability. In the version with the VIO-drum, compaction with oscillation is also possible. This model is used for new builds, extensions or for the maintenance of roads and paths, for the development of new properties, in gardening and landscaping, and in trench construction.

H 7i VIO: In a nutshell

Bombardi Tiefbau GmbH had the contract to create approx. 1000 m² of outdoor facilities for a business in the Southern German town of Titisee-Neustadt. For this, the team used a H 7i VIO to compact a frost protection layer into two or three layers, each with a thickness of 25 cm. Even before starting the work, the first advantage of the simple transport became apparent: "This compactor transports wonderfully on our small truck because it has such a compact design," reports Alexander Schäfer. When manoeuvring, it quickly became clear that "this roller is great for cramped construction sites because it is so short. And it provides a completely clear field of vision."

Impressive compaction power

The compaction power also impressed machine operator Michael Ücker: "This compactor really compacts extremely well, despite its small dimensions. We tested various machines and can now see that, with the H 7i VIO from HAMM, we are achieving better compaction than with other machines in this class." It was also important to the team that this compact roller could work in oscillation mode: "Then we don't pull up any water." This means: High-quality compaction without the risk of decomposition – a clear quality advantage when compared to simple vibration compaction.

Efficient in cramped construction sites

An H 7i VIO was used to prepare the sub-surface when widening a heavily used main road in Leubsdorf am Rhein in Germany. The construction site was sandwiched between the banks of the Rhine and one of the most important railway lines in Germany. Once the soil on the dam between the railway line and the banks of the Rhine had been removed to a depth of around 1.50 m, the construction company Günter Alsdorf GmbH & Co. KG used their new H 7i VIO to skilfully build up the coarse- and mixed-particle soil into several layers, each with a thickness of 25 cm. Machine operator Philipp Zeiler was immediately impressed with the compact, extremely short compactor: "The H 7i is extremely easy to handle and operates perfectly. It may be small, but you have a lot of space." Added to this is excellent visibility, which is made possible thanks to the bevelled crossbeam and suitably designed rear vehicle. The drive via drive engines creates great ground clearance; the short wheelbase combined with the three-point articulation also results in a small turning circle. In short: The best prerequisites for use on the banks of the Rhine.

Compaction in a sensitive environment

To create the dam right beside the street and the railway line, low-vibration compaction was also important. The VIO compactor therefore mostly worked in oscillation mode for this. As is the case on all VIO rollers from HAMM, the operator can switch from vibration mode to oscillation mode with the touch of a button from the operator platform – even while driving. However, the operator recognises even more strengths of the compaction with oscillation: "I usually compacted loose material with oscillation and therefore avoided moisture being pulled up. I also used oscillation when I wanted a particularly flat surface." Preventing decomposition and creating flat surfaces are just some of the many advantages of compaction with oscillation. At the construction site in Leubsdorf am Rhein, it also became clear "that the HAMM rollers also had a more pleasant noise level when compared to other, comparable models."

Dam construction along the banks of the Rhine

Restricted space, compaction immediately beside a street and a railway line: At the construction site in Leubsdorf am Rhein, the H 7i VIO impressively demonstrated its strengths.

Available as an option: WITOS Fleet View for the H CompactLine series

For the models of the H CompactLine series, HAMM offers WITOS Fleet View, a professional telematics solution providing a convenient overview of consumption and position data, work times, error messages and service intervals. Irrespective of the location and time, the construction manager, for example, can monitor where machines are located and their operating status. This simplifies scheduling and planning processes and avoids unnecessary machine transportation. Detailed and targeted analyses of machine operating and user behaviour make maintenance and servicing easier, and also guarantee that the machines retain their value in the long term. WITOS FleetView also assists with surveillance by sending automated notifications via e-mail in the event of unauthorised access to the machine. One example of this would be moving the machine when locked ("shock event").
