Benninghoven ECO 4000 plants deliver top performance

Fast installation and a high daily production rate for various road construction projects in Bulgaria

Benninghoven has been active in the Bulgarian market since 2005 and has its own sales and service network in the country with Wirtgen Bulgaria. 25 asphalt mixing plants are currently in use throughout Bulgaria, as well as a number of polymer and emulsion plants. One of the largest customers is the private infrastructure company Groma Hold, which already has three Benninghoven plants and has now invested in another ECO 4000. A major reason for this were the convincing performance figures and the record-breaking installation time.

Groma Hold is one of the largest customers of Wirtgen Bulgaria and one of the leading infrastructure companies in the country. The company has implemented more than 300 projects in the past 20 years, including the construction of around 70 km of motorway and more than 1000 km of new and refurbished roads. In addition to this, Groma Hold is responsible for maintaining over 1000 km of road infrastructure, depending on the season.

Successful partnership with Wirtgen Bulgaria

The company has been working with the Wirtgen Group very successfully for many years. Groma invests a lot of money – typically in new machinery and plants of the latest generation. The machine fleet includes Wirtgen milling machines, slipform pavers, Vögele pavers and feeders, Hamm rollers, Kleemann impact crushers, jaw crushers, screening systems and, since 2015, also four Benninghoven asphalt mixing plants: one mobile MBA 1250 and three ECO 4000.

ECO 4000 impresses with performance figures

The record-breaking installation time and the high daily production of 2600 to 3000 t of asphalt from the first two ECO 4000 plants had impressed Groma so much that they decided to invest in a third plant of the same type. Another important selling point was the option for retrofitting the plant with optional modules and, of course the customer service and the good cooperation with Wirtgen Bulgaria also played a key role that should not be underestimated.

“We were convinced by the high daily output of 2600 to 3000 tons and the record-breaking installation time of the ECO 4000 plants.”

Benninghoven plants: high production capacity – fast installation

The plants supply only the Groma Hold fleet and produce asphalt for currently four road construction projects in South, Northwest, Northeast and Central Bulgaria. A total of 1,140,000 t were produced and installed in 2021 – an impressive quantity for Bulgaria. This seems like a record number, as does the fast installation of the two ECO 4000 at the Stara Zagora and Mezdra sites. Despite the great logistical challenges, the plants were installed and started up within just 45 days – another joint success by Wirtgen Bulgaria and Groma Hold.

In action at 4 sites throughout the country: The Benninghoven ECO 4000 plants are located in Kutsian (Northeast Bulgaria, not yet in use), Stara Zagora (Central Bulgaria) and Mezdra (Northwest Bulgaria). The MBA 1250 is used in Ognyanovo (South Bulgaria).

Large projects are supported by EU development programs

Like most Bulgarian companies, Groma Hold covers the entire process chain: from raw material production and processing, asphalt production and installation to refurbishment. The company is increasingly working on projects that are financed through EU development programs and contribute to integrating the country’s national road network into the European traffic network.
