Benninghoven ECO 4000 plants deliver top performance

Fast installation and high daily production in a wide range of road construction projects in Bulgaria

Benninghoven has been active on the Bulgarian market since 2005 and is represented by Wirtgen Bulgaria with its own sales and service network. Currently, 25 asphalt mixing plants are in operation throughout the country, in addition to several polymer and emulsion plants. One of the largest customers is the private infrastructure company Groma Hold, which already has three Benninghoven plants and has now invested in another ECO 4000 plant. The reason for this was ultimately the impressive performance values and incredibly fast installation times.

Groma Hold is one of Wirtgen Bulgaria's largest customers and one of the country's leading infrastructure companies. The company has completed more than 300 projects over the last 20 years, including the construction of around 70 km of freeway and more than 1000 km of new and rehabilitated roads. In addition, Groma Hold is seasonally responsible for the maintenance of more than 1,000 km of road infrastructure.

Successful partnership with Wirtgen Bulgaria

The company has enjoyed an extremely successful working relationship with the Wirtgen Group for many years. Groma invests heavily – usually in state-of-the-art machinery and equipment. The machinery fleet includes Wirtgen milling machines, cold recyclers, slipform pavers, Vögele pavers and feeders, Hamm rollers, Kleemann impact crushers, jaw crushers, screening plants and, since 2015, also four Benninghoven asphalt mixing plants: one mobile wheeled MBA 1250 and three ECO 4000.

ECO 4000 features impressive performance values

The incredibly fast installation and high daily production of 2600 to 3000 t of asphalt by the first two ECO 4000 plants were so impressive that Groma decided to invest in a third identical plant of this type. Another key factor in the decision to purchase was the possibility of retrofitting with optional modules at a later date. The service and the collaborative partnership with Wirtgen Bulgaria, which should not be underestimated, also obviously played a major role.

“The high daily output of 2600 to 3000 tons per day and the incredibly fast installation of the ECO 4000 plants really impressed us.”

Benninghoven plants: high production capacity – fast installation

The plants exclusively supply Groma Hold's own fleet and currently produce asphalt for four road construction projects in Southern, Northwestern, Northeastern and Central Bulgaria. In 2021, 1,140,000 t of asphalt, which is a remarkable amount for Bulgaria, was produced and laid. This is record-breaking, as is the fast installation of the two ECO 4000 plants at the Stara Zagora and Mezdra sites. Despite major logistical challenges, the plants were installed and commissioned in just 45 days – another feat attributable to the collaborative efforts of Wirtgen Bulgaria and Groma Hold.

In operation at 4 locations throughout the country: The Benninghoven ECO 4000 plants are located in Kutsina (Northeastern Bulgaria | not yet in operation), Stara Zagora (Central Bulgaria) and Mezdra (Northwestern Bulgaria). The MBA 1250 is in operation in Ognyanovo (Southern Bulgaria).

Large projects are supported by EU development programs

Like most Bulgarian companies, Groma Hold covers the entire process chain: from raw material extraction and processing to asphalt production and laying, through to rehabilitation. The company is becoming increasingly involved in projects funded through EU development programs which are helping to integrate the country's national road network into the European transport system.
