Exact Simulation of the Cold Recycling Process in the Lab

Foamed bitumen is increasingly being used as a binding agent in cost-effective cold recycling. The foamed bitumen quality can be precisely defined in the laboratory prior to the start of construction by carrying out preliminary tests using the WLB 10 S mobile laboratory unit. Extremely simple handling allows different parameters, like water quantity, pressure, and temperature, to be varied quickly, and different types of foamed bitumen to be produced within a short period of time. Based on the results, the WLM 30 laboratory mixer can then be used to determine the mix composition and define the ideal bitumen foam for production of the test specimens. The built-in air compressor allows the unit to be operated even in locations where there is no external supply of compressed air. The unit can also be used to test the suitability of mixes by adding cement or lime in combination with foamed bitumen.

Mixes That Are Just as Homogeneous as on the Job Site

Injecting the bitumen foam directly into the WLM 30 laboratory-scale mixer’s mixing chamber makes it possible to prepare mixes in line with actual conditions and produce test specimens. But the twin-shaft pugmill is not only perfectly compatible with the laboratory unit in terms of design and output, it also supplies the mixer with power. The high mixing intensity is equivalent to that of continuous mixers used on job sites. The WLM 30 has a capacity of approx. 30 kg, as well as variable speed and mixing time settings. To remove the mix, the mixing chamber can be pivoted downwards by 180° and the cover easily opened. Furthermore, the WLM 30 can be used separately for a wide variety of mix compositions.

Quality Assurance Even Before Construction Begins

The preliminary analysis consists of procuring the raw material, determining the mix formula, and testing the suitability of the test specimens. The WLB 10 S and WLM 30 laboratory units can be used to determine the final road structure in advance. The two machines make it possible to conduct accurate analyses of mixes consisting of asphalt granulate, new materials, or a mixture of both. Our broad, innovative product range enables us to rehabilitate roads in a cost-effective and reliable manner.
