Digital Solutions in Road Construction

Digital Transformation through Production System Solutions

The labor-intensive construction sector suffers like hardly any other from a global shortage of skilled and qualified human resources. And this critical situation is further exacerbated by increasingly stringent demands when it comes to quality, documentation, and sustainability. It is becoming increasingly difficult to complete projects within specified deadlines with the existing resources, to ensure the quality of the work, and simultaneously guarantee seamless analysis and documentation of the results. When it comes to overcoming these challenges, the WIRTGEN GROUP benefits not only from its unique expertise in road construction, but also in the building of bridges – bridges that cross the divide into a connected world in which the greatest possible efficiency in the utilization of resources within our customers’ production systems is achieved through the digital transformation. With what we call Production Systems, we describe the paradigm shift from machine-centric approaches to a holistic consideration of projects that integrates all machines, combinations of machines, and/or digital solutions involved in the realization of the project.

In order to achieve this goal, we want to be seen not only as the technology leader in the construction equipment sector, but also in the adaptation of digital applications that enable our customers to deploy their machines with maximum efficiency. With solutions such as WPT Recycling, WPT Spreading or WPT Milling – the WIRTGEN GROUP Performance Trackers – or Smart Compaction for HAMM rollers – there are already a number of proven and established solutions on the market that offer their users substantial added value.

To enable our ongoing development, we always evaluate how we can further improve our solutions for the various fields of application for all parties involved in construction projects – from machine operators and resource managers to workshop managers, and from site managers to company management levels.

Digital Transformation is a Decisive Factor for:

  • the maximization of machine utilization rates
  • ensuring maximum efficiency in the allocation of resources
  • guaranteeing timely project completion
  • the assurance of the quality of results
  • facilitating the analysis and documentation of relevant processes

“Process-performance, sustainability, and the realization of projects with available resources are decisive factors in the question of whether our customers have an edge over their competitors or not. The portfolio of digital products from the WIRTGEN GROUP in the areas of Jobsite Intelligence, Smart Automation, and Connected Support assist and support our customers in the achievement of this goal. And this is only the beginning. The journey we have started out on with our customers goes much further. We are working hand-in-hand on the realization of a smarter, safer, and more sustainable future.”

The Three Cornerstones of the Digital Transformation

The holistic consideration of an entire construction project offers the greatest potential for optimization and is therefore the most important factor for leveraging increased productivity and cost-efficiency. By networking all machines, systems, and processes involved in the construction process, digitalization is in a position to exploit the entire spectrum of available potentials. With our Connected Support, Jobsite Intelligence, and Smart Automation solutions, we are at your side through every step of the construction process.

We concentrate on the three cornerstones that build the foundation of the ongoing digital transformation and on working closely with our customers and partners on the road to a digital and, in consequence, more efficient road construction industry.
