Gypsum processing to the highest standards

Dual Kleemann power with impact crusher and jaw crusher

In Alameda de la Sagra, south-west of Madrid in Spain, Recuperaciones Perez produces natural stone gypsum. This is used mainly for the production of gypsum plaster boards. To meet the high standards required for the final product, the company decided to use state-of-the-art mobile crushing technology from Kleemann.

The gypsum plaster boards made from the natural stone gypsum are primarily used in housing construction. The standards for the material are high, and the quality must be consistent in order to meet the expectations of end customers. And: It is a material that is considered quite complex.

Challenging material from two quarries

The sedimentary rock is crushed at two quarries. It consists of around 70 percent gypsum, but also approximately 30 percent of foreign materials such as sand and soil. One more challenge: The content of fines should be kept as low as possible. Antonio Castro, Recycling plant manager at Recuperaciones Perez stresses: “With the final product we desire, the content of fines must not exceed 30 percent.”

Jaw crushers and impact crushers for various degrees of hardness

Recuperaciones Perez relies on two mobile plants from Kleemann: The jaw crusher MOBICAT MC 110 EVO2 and the impact crusher MOBIREX MR 110 EVO2. The jaw crusher is primarily used for softer materials, while the impact crusher is specifically designed for harder rock. “We’ve done a lot of testing over the years and worked with numerous plants,” says Antonio Castro. “Then, a while back, I saw a colleague using the Kleemann plant. I was really impressed. Even now, after quite a few hours of operation, I would say that the plants are a perfect fit for the material and our high-quality standards.”

Prescreening as the key to quality

A decisive factor for the quality of the final product is efficient prescreening. The independent double-deck prescreen reliably separates the undesired content of fines and foreign matter from the rock. “Thanks to the efficient prescreen, we achieve a significantly better product – and all with just one machine per quarry,” says Castro. Another key factor in ensuring that the final product meets the desired quality standards is the blending of materials from the two quarries – each of which has slightly different material properties.

High output combined with low consumption

In addition to the quality of the output, the crushing plants impress with their cost-effectiveness. Both plants have high production capacities, yet their fuel consumption remains remarkably low. “At the end of the day, what matters to us is the cost-per-ton calculation”, explains Antonio Castro. “The impact and jaw crushers use only about half the fuel of our previous systems – which, of course, makes a huge difference.”

Building trust through advice and service

Recuperaciones Perez was looking for machines that were precisely tailored to the material and the application – and has now found them. “We felt very well advised from the start; they understood our needs perfectly,” says Antonio Castro. Looking ahead to future projects, one thing is clear: “If there’s demand for similar machines, we’ll rely on Kleemann again. Our experiences have been consistently positive.” The customer is supported by the local Wirtgen Group dealer EMSA  Maquinaria y Proyectos S.L.
