Innovations at Bauma 2022: sustainable technologies for asphalt production

Benninghoven offers sustainable and cost-effective technologies for reducing the carbon footprint.

At Bauma 2022, Benninghoven will provide operators of asphalt mixing plants with strategies for meeting the challenges of our time. Most important of all is boosting efficiency while massively reducing climate-damaging emissions. In terms of CO₂ and TC (total carbon), asphalt mixing plants offer plenty of potential for cutting emissions – and these should be exploited to the full.

Benninghoven’s mission to achieve “sustainability in asphalt production” consists of several key components, including the recycling of asphalt, the proper storage of virgin mineral and recycled material, the use of reduced-temperature asphalt, the electrification of bitumen tanks, and the use of renewable energy or fuels of the future.

Reducing the carbon footprint

Benninghoven solutions ensure greater energy efficiency and a reduction in the carbon footprint. Greenhouse gas savings of up to 54% of CO₂ per year are feasible.

Hot and cold recycling feed systems

Benninghoven offers a wide range of “hot and cold” recycling feed systems for reusing reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) – like the RAP removed by Wirtgen cold milling machines, for example. The recycling systems can also be retrofitted to existing asphalt mixing plants.

Roofed facilities for dry storage

Roofed facilities for the dry storage of virgin and recycled mineral save large quantities of fuel – and carbon emissions – that would otherwise be used to dry and heat these materials.

Major potential savings for energy

Reduced-temperature asphalt offers a lot of potential for reducing energy use and carbon emissions. Most of this can be achieved during production, i.e. in a Benninghoven asphalt mixing plant with the right technological systems.

Electrical tank heating

Benninghoven’s electrically heated tanks with optimal energy insulation make bitumen storage efficient and emission-free at the point of storage.

Use of renewable fuels

Making the switch to renewable fuels today: Benninghoven EVO JET burners can also burn liquefied biomass (BtL) or wood dust.
