Paver specialist Joseph Vögele AG welcomes young talent
A total of 19 young men and women are beginning vocational training at the Vögele headquarters in Ludwigshafen. The world market leader for pavers offers them high-quality training, digital learning methods, close-knit supervision and a good chance of being taken on as an employee.
The starting gun has gone off at Vögele’s 800-square metre training centre: 19 trainees are starting the first year of their vocational training; they include ten aspiring industrial mechanics, seven mechatronics technicians, one warehouse logistics specialist and one warehouse operative. “As a large employer with a long tradition, we give a high priority to in-house vocational training and promoting our own talents, so we were delighted to get so many committed young people again this year,” said Michael Kulok, CEO at Joseph Vögele AG. “Vögele is a paver specialist renowned all over the world for its quality and innovation. To allow us to continue making this claim in future, we need qualified, motivated people at the start of their careers whom we can prepare specifically for our requirements.” Including this years intake, Vögele is currently training some 70 young people.
Arrived with the intention of staying
Vögele is always investing in new technology, machines and high-quality training. It’s been worth it: in 2025, 12 trainees successfully completed their vocational training and signed permanent employment contracts. “Our philosophy is to train our employees of tomorrow, to develop them on an individual basis and to retain them long-term,” says Oliver Laible, Head of Training. As part of the Wirtgen Group, a group of construction machinery companies with international operations belonging to John Deere, Vögele offers a variety of career and development opportunities.

Digital learning methods
Vögele is expanding its digital offerings to prepare its young people for the world of work: when they start, all trainees are given an iPad and access to the Vocanto e-learning platform. Here they can work through learning units on a flexible basis, network in tutor groups and get a better understanding of complex content through animations and videos. “We link digital technologies to mechanical engineering training material,” says Laible. From the digital recording of each trainees progress to the 3D printer, we integrate a variety of methods into our vocational training and introduce our young people to topics such as Industry 4.0, automation and networking.”
Close-knit supervision
The focus is on exchanging information in person. Trainees are accompanied and closely supervised by five trainers. “We encourage the personal as well as the professional skills of our young people,” says Laible. “This creates an atmosphere characterised by helpfulness, commitment and respect.” Apart from staff social events, Vögele consequently organises a variety of projects, excursions and team events especially for the trainees. At the annual Azubi TechDays, for example, trainees from all the Wirtgen Group companies in Germany come together to complete a real-life road construction project.
