The JDLink M-Modem enables monitoring of all machines in the John Deere Operations Center™, regardless of the machine manufacturer

The JDLink M Modem

Using the John Deere Operations Center™ fleet management system in conjunction with the JDLink M-Modem enables users to monitor all machines deployed on a construction site, regardless of the manufacturer. The M modem is easy-to-install and attractively priced and delivers valuable data in the form of information about machine locations, speed, operational status, and operating hours. All this data and information flows automatically to your John Deere Operations Center™ account and enables you to more effectively assess your operational activities and make well-founded, data-based decisions.

Interested? We would be pleased to advise you.

You can order the JDLink M-Modem as a mixed fleet retrofit kit from your local Wirtgen Group contact under the SAP number WX3224104.

Required input voltage: the voltage range for the switched and unswitched power supply is between 9.0 - 32.0 V.

Fuse recommendations: the device must be protected by a fuse with a maximum rated current of 10 A in all systems.

Warning: do not use fuses with a maximum rated current greater than 10 A. This can lead to irreparable damage to the device!

The cable harness included in the kit has a length of five meters and should be shortened to the required length if necessary.

It has a 10 A automotive fuse near the modem connector plug and three cables at the other end, which must be correctly assembled as required. It is possible that cable end sleeves or ring eyelets may need to be fitted, depending on the machine on which the cable set is used.

The following points must be taken into consideration when positioning the JDLink M-Modem.

  • The modem must not be shielded by metal parts, otherwise GPS and/or GSM signal reception will not be possible.
  • Do not mount the modem in locations with extreme temperatures.
  • If the modem is to be mounted in an operator’s cabin, position it as near to a window as possible.
  • The device is compatible with 12 V or 24 V systems.
  • Take surrounding materials into account when installing the modem. Do not mount the modem directly under a metal structure or near other transmitters or receivers that could cause interference with the GPS signal and the cellular signal.
  • The mounting location of the JDLink modem should be 20 cm (7.9 in) from the driver/operator and persons standing nearby. The antennas are integrated into the modem.
  • For ideal results, the mounting surface should be clean and flat. Use alcohol wipes to ensure that the surface is free of grease, oil, and dirt. Press down firmly on the unit to ensure strong bonding between it and the mounting surface.
  • Recommended temperature range for self-adhesive mounting:
    • Peel off the protective paper from the self-adhesive pad on the modem, position the modem at the chosen mounting location on the machine, and press it down firmly to ensure a strong bond.
    • The ideal temperature range for self-adhesive mounting is between 21 and 38 °C (70 and 100 °F).
    • We advise against self-adhesive mounting at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F).

Please note the following: Avoiding interference with the signal or signal loss. To ensure ideal performance, the modem should be mounted as described above. Performance may be affected or limited if the modem has been installed incorrectly.

Adding a Machine to the John Deere Operations Center™:

  • Access the website The John Deere Operations Center™ and log in via the “Login” button with your username and password
  • When the page has finished loading, machine and equipment management must be accessed via the menu items “Setup” and “Equipment”.
  • In machine and equipment management, users can see which machines are currently assigned to the organization (the customer), add new machines and link or remove machines.
  • The “+Add” button in machine and equipment management initiates the process for adding a further machine. Clicking on this button starts a guided process.
What should you do when you can’t add or activate a machine?
Please address this issue to your local Wirtgen Group Service contact partner .
  • On the next page, if you have access to multiple organizations, the first step is to select the organization to which the machine should be added. Clicking on the organization name opens a drop-down list, if available.
  • After selecting the organization, you must now enter the original manufacturer product identification number (PIN/VIN) for the machine. This 17-character string is usually found on the machine's type plate.
  • Once the machine manufacturer's product identification number (PIN/VIN) has been entered and the system recognizes the manufacturer, the next step is add the specific machine data. On the basis of this, the specific data (brand, type, model) is added directly for particular machines.
  • If you do not know or cannot find the machine manufacturer's original product identification number (PIN/VIN), you can activate the check box next to the input field for the serial number.
Important! We recommend using the product information number of the machine in any case.
  • Without entering the product identification number (PIN/VIN): If the check box has been activated, the user must now select the master data in the following steps. In the first step, the user must enter a machine name and then the model. As soon as these two fields have been completed, further fields appear in which the user must enter other machine-specific data.
  • When the machine data have been recognized or entered, the process of adding a machine must be closed by clicking on “Add”.
  • The system creates the machine and adds it to the machine list of the selected organization in machine and equipment management.
  • If no device can be found after entering the serial number of the telematics equipment in question, this means that the modem is located in another organization. Please get in touch with your local Wirtgen Group Service contact partner . Only this person can request the equipment for you and then transfer it to your organization.
  • After successful transfer of the equipment, the machine will now appear in your organization in the machine and equipment manager.
