An unusual success story began in November 1961. Reinhard Wirtgen, at the time only 20 years old, goes into business for himself as a freight forwarder with just one truck. This was the birth of WIRTGEN GmbH. Today, the one-man operation has grown from its beginnings to become an internationally renowned construction machinery specialist that simultaneously time forms a central pillar of the WIRTGEN GROUP.

The history of Wirtgen GmbH is marked by a passion for road construction and mining, expertise and experience gained from having a pioneering spirit, as well as the power to innovate and repeatedly develop suitable solutions for customers. The family-owned company steadily expanded its product range and thus made the transition from being strictly a service company to a manufacturer of construction machinery and the global market leader in milling machines, recyclers, soil stabilizers, and surface miners.
