Warm mix asphalt
Warm mix asphalt

The potential for saving energy is one of the most important drivers of this trend: warm mix asphalt (WMA) as a road construction material is currently becoming more and more important. Technologies and solutions from the Wirtgen Group are the perfect response to this trend – and play an important role in ensuring that the production and utilisation of lower-temperature mixes is achieveable with conventional methods and equipment.

How soil stabilisation works
How soil stabilisation works

In contrast to complete soil replacement, soil stabilisation can minimise transport logistics and conserve materials. When being used as a soil stabiliser, the WR uses its powerful milling and mixing rotor to mix pre-spread binding agents such as lime or cement into the existing, insufficiently stable soil to working depths of up to 560 mm and convert it into a high-quality construction material in-situ. The resulting homogeneous mixture of soil and binding agent offers outstanding tensile, compressive, and shear strength, long-term resistance to water and fros and volume stability. Typical applications include the construction of paths, roads, highways, routes, parks and sports grounds, industrial estates, industrial plants, airfields, dams, backfilling, and landfill sites.

Mixed-in-place process
Mixed-in-place process

When mixing in-place / in-situ, a cold recycler granulates the existing pavement while mixing in binders and water homogeneously at the same time. This method produces a new construction material mixture in a single operation. The cold recyclers are equipped with a powerful milling and mixing rotor and highly efficient injection systems.

Operating principle in situ
Operating principle in situ

The WR is equipped with a powerful milling and mixing rotor and state-of-the-art injection systems. The cold recycler mills and granulates the existing asphalt pavement, injects binders and water in precisely metered quantities and mixes all three in a single operation. The new base layers produced in this in-situ process are distinctive for their exceptionally high bearing capacity.

Intelligent ballasting
Intelligent ballasting

Depending on the type of asphalt and layer thickness, or the earthworks to be performed, correctly ballasting the pneumatic tyre rollers is key to achieving high quality compaction. HAMM offers a flexible ballasting concept for the HP series of pneumatic tyre rollers (Tier 3, Tier 4) – quick and easy to use on the construction site, it enables optimal weight distribution to guarantee the best possible compaction results.

Three-point articulation – guarantees optimum driving comfort
Three-point articulation – guarantees optimum driving comfort

Working on a range of construction sites in the earthworks and asphalt sectors requires rollers to have optimum driving and steering characteristics. To meet this need, HAMM has installed three-point articulation – a more sophisticated upgrade from conventional articulated joints – in all compactors and tandem rollers in the HD CompactLine, HD and HD+ series as standard.
