Impact Crusher with double-deck post screening unit opens up new opportunities

Lightwater Quarries extracts limestone in North Yorkshire (UK). The family-run company has been working with Kleemann for many years. The machine fleet has now been expanded to include the MOBIREX MR 130 PRO impact crusher – the flexible screening options were the key deciding factor.

The company supplies high-quality aggregates and concrete to both the building industry and private customers. “The dependability and efficiency of Kleemann machinery has always impressed us”, says Richard Scott, Managing Director of Lightwater Quarries. “We were keen to produce an even wider range of end products with a single machine. So when the opportunity arose to see the new MR 130 PRO in action at another company site, we jumped at the chance.” Rob Coward, Kleemann Kleemann expert at Wirtgen Limited, UK, still remembers the visit to Breedon Aggregates to see the impact crusher: “The MR 130 PRO impressed Breedon Aggregates with its outstanding production performance. For Lightwater Quarries, however, it was the double-deck post screening unit that was of particular interest, as it can be used to produce up to three different end products. The plant’s large, efficient prescreen was also very well received.”

Flexible screen media for versatile application

The on-site visit was convincing: Lightwater Quarries can ideally perform its various main applications with the MOBIREX MR 130 PRO. The feed material consists of blasted rock with a grain size of 0 to 600 mm, but also occasionally contains chunks with a maximum edge length of over 1000 mm. In the basic configuration, a type 1 (0–40 mm) product is produced. By changing the screen configuration, a 40–80 mm product is also produced and, when using the oversize grain conveyor, coarse fractions such as 40–100 mm or 80–150 mm.

“This degree of flexibility was impossible with the old set-up, which required several steps and produced a much lower output,” notes Andy Parker, Operations Director at Lightwater Quarries. “It’s fantastic that changing the screen media on the post screening unit is so easy. The impact crusher is very accessible and changing the screen media is quick and easy, so the plant is back in production mode in no time at all.”

Intelligent crusher technology with CFS

In addition to the easy screen medium change, users are very impressed with the Continuous Feed System (CFS) of the MR 130 PRO, which ensures that the crusher is always working at optimum capacity. It monitors the load on the rocker, rotor and motor, and automatically regulates the frequency of the vibrating feeder and prescreen. This ensures optimum utilisation at all times. “The material flow is flawless and very consistent. This guarantees consistent tonnage and product quality,” confirms Andy Parker. The intuitive control system with SPECTIVE and SPECTIVE CONNECT also adds to the pleasant working experience. “Everyone here enjoys working with the plant. Everything is easily accessible, the functions are well thought out, and even when you’re away from the plant, you always have a mobile overview of everything and can respond quickly.”

Efficient diesel-electric drive

The MR 130 PRO is equipped with a powerful 478 kW diesel-electric drive. The crusher and all conveyor belts are electrically powered, which reduces fuel consumption. “We are delighted with the plant’s performance and fuel consumption. We are working very efficiently with the plant,” says Managing Director Richard Scott, “It’s a real advantage that, with the new production processes, we can now run all our main applications with just one plant – and to a very high standard.”
