AZUBI techdays 2022

Trainees from all Wirtgen Group brand headquarters work together at Kleemann to complete a road construction project under their own direction.

Faurndau | Göppingen

The AZUBI techdays are already a traditional annual event. This year, the 103 trainees in their 3rd year of training came together at the former Kleemann factory to gather valuable practical experience. The goal is to familiarise the trainees from the Wirtgen Group companies Wirtgen, Vögele, Hamm, Kleemann and Benninghoven with the machines manufactured by all the brands and promote teamwork across and between the various areas of the group.

The camera was never far away

A camera team followed the trainees and instructors throughout the event and captured numerous fascinating impressions. The team produced a short film with many behind the scenes views of the AZUBI techdays.

The Wirtgen trainees began the day with milling

The trainees and instructors from Wirtgen arrived at the event a day earlier in order to get through the extensive programme of challenges and tasks. After a guided tour of the Kleemann plant, the next item of the programme was a visit to a construction site at the former Kleemann factory in Faurndau. Here, the participants received their instructions and were assigned their tasks for the following day. By arrangement with the new owners, the task ahead of them was the rehabilitation of a run-down car park in need of repairs.

The trainees received professional support during the milling work at the site. Practical tips and advice were given not only by the instructors, but also by technicians from the brand headquarters and employees from a local construction firm. The mood on-site was great from the start

The key tasks of the main day on the site were milling, asphalt paving and compaction

The trainees from the other companies arrived in the course of the day. After the obligatory factory tour and a visit to the construction site, everyone came together in the evening to prepare themselves for the challenges of the main day on the site.

The new day began with the completion of the remaining milling work. All trainees were given the chance to operate each of the machines on-site to get a hands-on impression of the handling. This phase of the project was followed by asphalt paving and compaction. The mutual support and collaboration was impressive – and the instructors were always at hand to answer any questions the trainees had.

The trainees did a great job with the SUPER 1803-3i wheeled paver from Vögele.

Recycling at first hand

The next highlight was already waiting: at the Kreislaufwirtschaft Heinrich Feess GmbH & Co. KG Recycling Park in Kirchheim unter Teck, the trainees not only enjoyed their first encounter with a Kleemann impact crusher, but also discovered fascinating facts about the increasing importance of sustainability in the everyday working lives of our customers.

Promotion and encouragement of teamwork

Having fun is always essential when it comes to learning so much and gathering practical experience. A varied programme of outdoor activities was offered in collaboration with the vocational training and qualification organisation ‘Weiterbildungszentrum für Bildung und berufliche Zusammenarbeit (BBQ)’. Exciting and challenging team activities once again showed our trainees just how important working together is for achieving goals.

This eventful day drew to a perfect close with an evening meal for all participants.

Teamwork was the order of the day - for instance in the challenge of how to get to the other bank without getting wet with just a couple of ropes.

The trainees did an outstanding job

On the last day, everyone came together again at the construction site to give their work at the site a couple of final touches and check the quality of the finished job. Both the trainees and their instructors were delighted with the results of the work and the resounding success of the entire event.
