Wirtgen | New W 150 F(i) Cold Milling Machine for High Performance in Narrow Spaces

Global launch in September 2023

The high-performance W 150 F(i) rounds out the upper end of the compact milling machines. With a milling width of up to 6 ft. (1.8 m), it is particularly suitable for large construction sites with limited parking, such as in city centers. Compact dimensions and a weight optimized for easy transportation make this machine a no-brainer for a multitude of different construction site scenarios. Its intuitive controls, combined with computer-assisted systems and the LEVEL PRO ACTIVE leveling system make single-person operation easy and efficient.

Eco-friendly Engine Technology by John Deere

This agile front loader with a standard working width of 5 ft. (1.50 m) features the latest, most eco-friendly engine technology compliant with EU Stage 5 / US Tier 4 Final exhaust emission standards. The 550-cu (9-liter) John Deere engine provides 315 kW at maximum power and is specially designed to handle the requirements of cold milling. It maintains high torque at all load levels while keeping noise pollution low. Even while delivering high-performance milling at its maximum working depth of 330, the machine uses significantly less fuel.

Digital Assistance and Leveling Systems

Mill Assist, Wirtgen Performance Tracker (WPT), and the leveling system LEVEL PRO ACTIVE provide operating support and increase efficiency. These systems have already proven their potential in the other F-series milling machines, and now operators of the W 150 F(i), the largest compact-class machine, will also profit from higher milling performance, increased efficiency, and clearer documentation due to automatically-generated site reports with all the relevant data.

Greater Milling Efficiency with Mill Assist

In automatic mode, Mill Assist selects the operating strategy with the most favorable balance between milling performance and operating cost. This increases milling performance while reducing carbon emissions and consumption of diesel, water, and picks. Mill Assist controls engine speed automatically according to the needs of the operator. The wide range of possible engine speeds means that the machine’s uses are equally broad. At lower engine speeds, fuel consumption and pick wear can be significantly reduced. At higher engine speeds, an optimum milling pattern can be maintained even over large areas.

The operator can also select one of three performance strategies: “ECO,” “performance-optimized,” or “milling pattern quality.” This makes it possible, for example, to pre-define the necessary milling pattern quality at the press of a button, from coarse to very fine.

Precise Leveling with LEVEL PRO ACTIVE

The LEVEL PRO ACTIVE leveling system is also included in the W 150 F(i). Developed by Wirtgen especially for cold milling machines, the leveling system is intuitive to use and allows for precise milling results. This machine is also outfitted with an optimized basic platform for the integration of 3D and laser leveling systems, as well as a redesigned Multiplex system with triple scanning. All sensors and measurement values are displayed in an easy-to-read format on the control panel in order to maximize process efficiency. The system is fully integrated in the control system of the cold milling machine. Important machine functions are directly interconnected, allowing for a high degree of automation.

State-of-the-Art Cockpit, also Available with Enclosed Cabin

The operator’s platform is characterized by ergonomic control elements with high-quality haptics and maximum operating comfort. Laterally adjustable operator’s platform for optimal vision along the zero clearance side. A camera system with between two and six cameras lets the operator view difficult-to-see areas. All relevant machine information is displayed on a 5” control screen in the multipurpose armrest. The optional enclosed cabin minimizes the operator’s exposure to the noise and dust of the site and provides a comfortable working environment.

Wirtgen Cutting Technology Reduces Toolholder Wear and Tear

The W 150 F(i) cold milling machine includes the wear-resistant HT22 quick-change toolholder system with the HT22 PLUS upper toolholder bracket In combination with the new X² Generation round-shank picks, toolholder wear can be reduced by up to 25%. Customers can profit from longer intervals between replacements and fast parts exchanges on site. The quick-change system for replacing milling drums, MCS (Multiple Cutting System), makes it easy to adjust working width and allows for high flexibility.
