The analysis and documentation module

This module facilitates objective assessment of the project by providing data for various evaluations and analyses. Easily-understood and clearly-arranged diagrams and charts enable the site manager or planning engineer to draw important conclusions from a completed project.

If RoadScan is in use, the thermography data compiled from the asphalt temperatures is transmitted together with process data immediately after paving. Monitoring active job sites has never been easier or more convenient.

WITOS Paving Analysis has an interface for accepting HCQ* data from HAMM rollers, allowing the compaction process to be analyzed and optimized, too.

Paving parameters at a glance
The job site report

At the end of a day’s paving operations or some other time period entered by the user, the system automatically generates a job site report. In this process, data including, for example, project progress including a specified/actual value comparison, information about paving efficiency and the mix truck delivery chain as well as thermography data are saved to the WITOS Paving Analysis module. The report can also be simply e-mailed as a PDF to relevant people such as the site manager.

The first page of this report has a summary of all paving parameters. These include job site, duration, paving performance data, mixing plant delivery performance, etc. Details on logistics, paving efficiency and paving temperature are shown on the subsequent pages...

Paving efficiency

The starting point for optimizing a job-site operation is to analyze paving efficiency. Users need to be able to see how many hours of a job were taken up by standstills and non-paving time in order to identify potential for improvement in the value chain and to initiate the necessary measures. In the example shown on the left, it was possible to increase paving efficiency from 62% to 82%.

Regular analysis of logistics processes and paving measures improves our customers' paving efficiency and hence also their cost effectiveness.

Delivery logistics is a decisive factor in job-site organization. If the delivery chain is well-timed, the paver always has a sufficient supply of mix. The continuous flow of material avoids waiting times caused by standstills, idling, repositioning etc. A non-stop paving process creates the optimum conditions for maintaining a homogeneous mix. This enables the paved surface to be perfectly prepared for the subsequent roller passes. The result is a durable roadway with a high load-bearing capacity.

Comparing arrival, waiting and unloading times of mix trucks with data on paving temperature allows weak points in the delivery chain to be identified. Why was the paving material too cold? Did a mix truck reach the job site too late? Or did it have too long a wait after arrival? These questions suggest approaches to logistics optimization.

Making quality measurable is one of the big challenges facing contractors and clients worldwide. In road construction, it is particularly important to verify that a constant paving temperature has been maintained, as this is a key criteria for ensuring the quality and durability of roads. This is because only a homogeneous layer can also be compacted evenly.

The temperature strip in the diagram shows that the temperature was very homogeneous overall. There are very few deviations into colder areas (blue) and these are visible more at the edges of the paved section.
