Pulsed-flow hydraulics for high-compaction technology
VÖGELE acquires the patent rights for pulsed-flow hydraulics. The Mannheim factory now develops the VIR 50, VIR 200 and VIR 300 pulsed-flow hydraulic rams on the basis of the "Knäble patent". The right to use this technology paves the way for high-compaction technology in screeds. In combination with modern rollers, these new high-tech compaction systems produce considerably more precise and more compact results.

Test series with high-compaction screeds
The first test series with high-compaction screeds takes place in autumn 1981, initially on the factory site and then on various customer job sites. In addition to tamper and vibrators, these precursors of the high-compaction screed also include two independent pressure bars downstream.

Maximum paving accuracy with progressive Automatic Grade and Slope Control
The tried-and-tested System for Automated Grade and Slope Control is developed further from July 1985 onwards. Its most important part – the control unit – and the remote control are optimized. The result is the progressive System for Automated Grade and Slope Control which, for the first time ever, is able to control the speed of the hydraulic rams for correcting the screed's elevation without additional manual control valves – i.e. automatically. The precision and accuracy of the paving process increase as a result.

Top compaction and maximum flexibility
Renamed 475 HVA, the high-compaction screed is first presented to a wide audience at Bauma 1986. VÖGELE combines two innovative, successful systems in this technology: the extending screed and the high-compaction screed. The 475 HVA High Compaction Screed comprises a 2.5 m wide basic screed and two 1.25 m wide extending units. Without bolt-on extensions, a paver with this configuration can handle pave widths between 2.5 and 4.75 m. VÖGELE's high-compaction screed owes its unique nature to the two electrically-heated pressure bars which are driven by pulsed-flow hydraulics.

Modules for paving mastic asphalt
Additional modules extend the range of applications for some pavers. The SUPER 1502 wheeled paver and its predecessors, the SUPER 82 and SUPER 142, for instance, are provided with a supplementary device for paving mastic asphalt and assigned the suffix GAF.

One switch for all functions
The new SUPER 1700 and SUPER 1704 series now also includes a traction main switch to control all operating functions, including the screed lock. Combined with the new high-compaction screed, the compacting performance of these pavers is improved enormously.

All-rounders capture the market
Two compact and exceedingly versatile tracked and wheeled pavers, the SUPER 1800 and SUPER 1804, go into serial production. They can be combined with all VÖGELE screeds and are found not only on inner-city sites, but also at airports and on motorways. They can place up to 600 tonnes of material an hour in layers up to 30 cm thick.

The tracked paver SUPER 1800 enjoys a legendary reputation. It is constantly being enhanced and is now in its fourth generation on the market.
