Well protected!
Wear lining for crushing and screening plants

Customer Support Series Part 10:
Kleemann wear lining

Thanks to the ideal protection of an extremely wide variety of components on crushing and screening plants, the machine service life is lengthened and cost-effectiveness is increased.

Crushing and screening plants are always subject to high forces and, in many cases, particularly high wear – above all in certain areas, or on components that make intense contact with the material to be processed. This wear results from pressure, impacts and friction. Different wear protective measures protect these components and thus make longer service lives of the plants possible. They can also have an influence on the capacity.

Protect what has to be protected!

On crushing plants, the hopper unit, prescreen and crushing unit require the most protection. On screening plants, the hopper also requires good protection; the screen casing or the screen surfaces are also subject to high wear. Original Kleemann wear lining protects these components, guarantees an optimised material flow and results in economy and sustainability.

Hopper unit and prescreen: On all mobile crushing and screening plants, the hopper unit is the first component that comes into contact with the feed material. To protect the hopper, therefore, different wear plates are available which, depending on the plant, are welded or bolted on. The plants that have a prescreen (MOBIREX impact crushers and MOBICAT jaw crushers) protect their side walls with wear plates.

Impact crusher

To protect the crushing unit against damage, the housing of the MOBIREX impact crushers is fully lined with highly wear-resistant plates. The crushing chamber can be divided into different wear zones. The area subject to the highest load is in the upper and discharge-side turning circle of the rotor ledges. The wear plates are designed such that some of them can be replaced with wear plates from zones subject to a lower load. This considerably increases the overall level of utilisation of the wear elements. The wear lining – appropriate for the application – is available in three different quality levels.

Jaw crusher

The mobile jaw crushers MOBICAT have a fixed and an articulated crusher jaw, whereby the material is crushed by an elliptical movement sequence. Side wedges are installed on the sides of these opposing crusher jaws for protecting the crusher housing. The wedges have two parts; the lower part is subject to higher wear. This wear protection, which matches the abrasiveness of the material, is available in three different quality levels.

Cone crusher

Cone crushers crush the feed material in a circulating opening and closing crushing gap between bowl liner and crusher cone by means of pressure crushing. To protect the crusher housing of the MOBICONE plants, the main frame is equipped with wear protection. A counterweight wear guard and support arm guard are also provided.

Classifying screening plants

At the feeding conveyor of the MOBISCREEN MSC EVO screening plants, the adjustable distribution plate guarantees an even distribution of the feed material over the complete width of the screen casing. Via a robust impact plate (wear plate), the feed material slides smoothly onto the first screen surface which significantly increases its service life.

Tips from application expert Ioannis Karademiroglou

Ioannis Karademiroglou, parts expert at Kleemann is convinced: "If you want to work with your crushing or screening plants in the long term and as trouble-free as possible, professional wear protection is indispensable."

My first tip:
Place your trust in original Kleemann wear plates because they are tuned to the overall concept of your Kleemann plant. In the crushing unit of the impact crusher, for example, we often see that other, frequently thicker, plates are installed in practice. This has effects on the complete process. It often results in a considerable increase in wear on the rotor and a decrease in plant output. The bottom line is that you pay double!

My second tip:
Check the condition of your wear protection on a regular basis. This is particularly important in the crushing units. The wear limit differs depending on the crusher.* If worn or broken wear plates are not changed in good time, damage can result to the load bearing components. In this case, very high costs and, of course, downtimes can be anticipated. My suggestion: please avoid a situation where you are forced to buy a new machine just because a plate was worn.
