Top deal with the Birchmeier Group

The Swiss contractor places its trust in powerful Wirtgen Group equipment

The privately owned Swiss construction company is setting a stronger focus on the business sectors Road and Mineral Technologies and is expanding its fleet with three Vögele pavers and two Hamm rollers, a Kleemann impact crusher, a screening plant and a mobile stockpile conveyor.

Döttingen | Switzerland

The Birchmeier Group is one of the leading construction services providers in the Aargau canton of Switzerland. Founded in 1940, and led in the third generation by Markus Birchmeier, the family company has developed into a broadly diversified specialist and today provides services in numerous key areas of the construction industry.

To assure the supply of materials to its own construction sites, the company’s own gravel and concrete plant is being upgraded with crushing and screening equipment. Birchmeier is currently also adding road construction to its portfolio of services. Setting up its own road construction crew and investment in the necessary equipment is an important step towards independence from external service providers and the generation of new customers.

One of the first jobs for the Vögele pavers. In the course of a project for the Swiss Federal Railways (Schweizerischen Bundesbahnen – SBB) the tasks of the road construction team from Birchmeier included the laying of new sub-track asphalt roadbeds.

‘This acquisition is strategically important and will extend our value chain.’

Construction equipment dealer Gurtner Baumaschinen arranged the deal

The sales transaction was handled by Wirtgen Group distributor Gurtner Baumaschinen AG. As a long-established representative and distributor of the Wirtgen Group’s comprehensive product portfolio on the Swiss Market, Gurtner was able to offer the Birchmeier Group a specially-tailored package that ideally supported its new strategic alignment.

The first machines have already been delivered

March 2021 saw the delivery of the Vögele pavers. The first road construction projects in Aargau – including the rehabilitation of the Hauptstrasse in Döttingen – ´have already been successfully completed with the new Wirtgen Group machines – all of which, by the way, are painted in a special colour scheme.

Official handover of the mobile impact crusher

The annual Summer Party has a long tradition at Birchmeier, and offered a wonderful opportunity for handing over the MR 130i EVO2 mobile impact crusher to Markus Birchmeier and his team.

Gurtner Baumaschinen AG had a traditional bell specially made for Markus Birchmeier – a little allusion to the CEO’s passion for the traditional sport of Swiss wrestling, in which he has won many of the highest awards.

It goes without saying that the MR 130i EVO2 was officially ‘launched’ with the traditional bottle of Champagne. Benno Keller, Managing Director of Birchmeier Kies + Beton AG, after whom the new mobile impact crusher is named, hit the target at first swing – watch our video to see more from the event.
