The history of hot recycling

Hot recycling gains acceptance

From the initial idea to the technological breakthrough

WIRTGEN had already developed a method of cost-effectively rehabilitating damaged surfaces of bituminous roads in the mid-1970s. Based on the revolutionary idea of replastifying these roads with heat, the company developed the first hot recycler in 1976. Since then, WIRTGEN has been active as a successful service provider with its own fleet of hot recyclers. With great pioneering spirit and enthusiasm, WIRTGEN continued to develop this cutting-edge process and a constant stream of new, effective ideas shaped the path of what was, at the time, an innovative technology. And today in particular, where cost-effective construction methods are the order of the day, the time and effort invested back then are truly paying off.

The first Repaver rolled off the production line in 1976 and led WIRTGEN’s future fleet as a hot recycling service provider. The development of the Remix process in 1979 marked a quantum leap in the quality of the surface layer of hot-recycled asphalt roads.

With a Repaver, road surfaces are rehabilitated using the hot recycling process.

In preparation for the Repaver, heating machines warm up the damaged asphalt.

1979

The Remix process improves the usability of the recycled material.

1980

WIRTGEN develops the FRP 300 and FRP 600 Joint Repavers for the rehabilitation of joints.

1984

In the Remix Plus process, surface layers are paved directly onto the remixed sub base.

1985

The new Remixer 4500 has a variable working width from 3.0 m to 4.5 m.

1985

WIRTGEN produces the FRP 1000 Mini Remixer for the rehabilitation of road pavements.

1989

WIRTGEN offers the Remixer 2500 for small and medium-sized surfaces.

2005

The completely redesigned Remixer 4500 sets new standards in hot recycling.
